Great Rift Valley — Woven Tapestry

The Great Rift Valley is a spectacular sight. The sky is so big. The landscape is untouched. And everywhere you look is another painted scene of beauty. On our drive from Nairobi to Moyale, I didn’t anticipate seeing The Great Rift Valley, so I gave myself whiplash trying to take it all in. And so, for week seven of #100daysofphotostofibers, I drew inspiration from this photo I took + set out to paint with fiber. The botanically dyed fibers add a subtle depth to the intricate woven details that invites you into the scene + encourages you to buy that plane ticket to see it IRL. Combining hand-dyed yarn + organic cotton, chunky felted wool + squishy color core, fair-trade sari silk + recycled chiffon, The Great Rift Valley Weave is a texture lovers dream. Oh, and did I mention, this one tapestry supports seven other female-run businesses too?!

For #the100dayproject, my original photos will also be available for purchase. If you would like to purchase the print of Great Rift Valley, it is available here.

Size: 24”W x 30”H

Color: Fern, Army, Kelp, Aloe, Corn, Fawn, Oat, Mocha, Dusty Rose, Mauve, Desert Plum, Eucalyptus, Mint, Seafoam, Baltic Sea, + White, on a reclaimed branch

With every sale, you choose a project you would like to support. My hope is that it would connect you to some incredible work that is being done around the world. Together, we are #knotjustthreads, we are an interwoven tapestry and when we come together, beautiful things can happen.

I have been intentional with the organizations I have chosen to support. I know that it is not only important to know where the money goes, but to know that the work is being done in sustainable ways to produce a long-lasting impact. Having personally partnered with each of these organizations in the field, I have seen how they practice love in action.
